A few weeks ago, I heard that if all the insects in the world died, all of life would end. And if all the humans in the world died, all of life would flourish.

By happenstance, I found this website today called The World Without Us that illustrates what would happen if humans just suddenly disappeared from life. The World Without Us is the companion site to the book of the same title by Alan Weisman. The author invites readers to envision Earth without humans in consideration of humanity’s negative impact. The opposite of development is nature. The opposite of our current model of development is nature. Now is our chance to demonstrate just how progressive we are by truly integrating technology and nature. Is destruction necessarily our nature or do we use it as the scapegoat for our laziness and greed?
