You need and deserve regular deliveries of uncanny revelation.
One of your inalienable rights as a human being should therefore be to
receive a mysteriously useful omen every day of your life.”

How the Whole World Is Conspiring to Shower You with Blessings

Are you who you say you are? Are you who you think you are, or who you want to be? I often like to explore the concept and believe that I am, but in reality, I’m not. In me is the range of humanity—kind, selfish, strong, weak, committed, capricious, confident, insecure, humble, arrogant, beautiful and ugly. I’m extreme, contradictory, complex. Oftentimes, I think, too extreme, too contradictory, too complex. These layers have made it difficult for me to consistently see myself honestly and positively. There are so many contradictions that even I’m sometimes left wondering who am I?
On things that don’t necessarily matter, it’s easy for me to toss an opinion around, whether it’s requested or not. However, on issues that deeply affect me, usually silence is my standard. Makes no sense. Am I outspoken or reserved?
My journey has taught me that I’m nicest to those I don’t know and more hurtful to those I care the most about. Am I kind or am I mean?
I can speak about my life, who I am—or think I am—and what I’ve learned easiest with strangers than people I’m emotionally invested in.
Why does this incongruency exist? Will the awareness of its presence create more congruency or will it persist regardless?
what is a soul mate?

but a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that’s holding you back,
the person who brings you to your own attention so that you can change your life.
a true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet,
because they tear down your walls and smack you awake.
but to live with a soul mate forever? nah. too painful.
soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then they leave.”

I wonder if this is a good start.
Be inspired: just do it.

Last night, I had the great pleasure to be present at the John Legend and The Roots perform songs from their new album, Wake Up! I was inspired by so much and for so many reasons. One of which was, for me, the highlight of the show, when Mrs. Jennifer Hudson strolled on stage and covered the gospel song, “Be Grateful”. It was beautiful. You’ll see.
Also touching was John Legend and The Roots covering Bill Withers’ “I Can’t Write Left Handed.” All kinds of awesome. Watch below and enjoy.
I realized my follow-through is what’s holding me back, or the lack thereof, more accurately. There’s a tune in your heart. May not be music. May simply be any call, feeling, urge to do something, express something, share, heal, love. Follow that call. Just do it. (I’m talking to us.)

The incredibly talented Bilal covers Bob Marley’s “Is This Love?” and does a tremendous job with his version. If the video doesn’t work for some reason, click on the link for the full screen version and it will open a new window.

Someone around you can use some encouraging, some positive attention, a hug, an ear, or just a smile. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), every day, 3,000 people end their own lives. Many more have attempted, and countless others have considered it.
Life is such a precious gift, to us and to others. We are here for so much more than what we wear, where we work, or how much we earn. Even in the mundane is the extraordinary, and within the extraordinary are perhaps elements of the mundane.
Shine your light! Someone needs to see it, hear it, feel it. You are bigger than your “I”.

Harry O’Brien is a truly pheonomenal young man I’ve written about before. Recently, he gave a speech at the United Nations DPI/NGO conference that inspires, causing you to think and feel. Watch, and as Harry says, “live for hope.”
What My World Sounds Like: “Devil In A New Dress”

The Kanye West I learned to love and respect released this amazing album called College Dropout in 2004. I can’t say I was an early adopter; he had to win me over. But that he did. Actually, I began to like him and his music so much because he’d earned my respect–I didn’t just give it to him. What I didn’t know about Ye was that his work ethic was sickening. That he would get better. He would grow as a person, and subsequently, he would grow as an artist and a musician.
He’s slated to release his fifth album this fall. In the meantime, he’s having a jolly old time being creative again and I’m enjoying it. He just released “Devil In a New Dress” at midnight. Apparently, I’ve played it 70 times since then. It reminds me of all the reasons I fell in love with hip hop. This song is a late night conversation with a good friend about something that you’re kind of down about, but feel better talking about it to someone you love. It’s a long embrace before saying goodbye. Quite simply, it’s amazing.
Your inner world rules your outer world

Life is calling you. All the time. Do this. Do that. Don’t do anything at all. There’s always a fork in the road. Sometimes you don’t even know it’s there, but it is. Sometimes you hear it, see it, feel it…this urge…this moment that comes to visit briefly. It may whisper, it may shout, but it’s always saying something. Are you listening?
The perpetual, invisible fork is the following question: how are you going to respond? To what? To everything.
We allow the outer world to control our inner world because we don’t understand that the more we control our inner world, the more we control the outer world. It often acts the other way around, but we’re so much more effective in our lives when we understand this. The past few weeks have proven this to be true.
Out of nowhere, my job suddenly became a place I slightly dreaded. I wasn’t even fully aware of it, but I noticed it when I realized time was my obsession. “What time is it?” and “how much longer will I be here?” Sure signs of danger. Everyone and everything was a problem and I played the victim to all the haphazard incidents and wrongdoings.
When somebody/everybody else is always the problem, maybe the problem is really you.

I recently saw this clip from the movie Tap starring Gregory Hines and featuring some of the greatest tap dancers including Sammy Davis, Jr. and Sandman. It’s amazing how easily we discount people who have a troves of talent we don’t know about.
